Honda has officially showcased the reborn 2026 Honda Prelude, marking the model’s return after a 25-year hiatus. Designed to carry Honda’s “joy of driving” philosophy into an electrified future, the new Prelude introduces a hybrid performance concept built for modern enthusiasts.

The sixth-generation Prelude shares its advanced e:HEV hybrid powertrain with the Civic and CR-V, pairing a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with an electric traction motor for a combined 147 kW and 315 Nm. While the new model departs from the high-revving VTEC heritage, Honda emphasises that the engineering focus remains on engagement, balance, and driving enjoyment.
A standout innovation is the new S+ Shift system — a simulated eight-speed shift program that replicates the feel of a dual-clutch transmission. Paddle-controlled upshifts, rev-matched downshifts, and stepped acceleration provide a dynamic driving character rarely seen in hybrids.
Underneath, the 2026 Prelude borrows key hardware from the Civic Type R, including:
-
Dual-axis front suspension
-
Adaptive Damper System
-
Brembo four-piston brakes
This engineering foundation ensures sharp handling, high stability, and strong front-end grip.
Inside, the Prelude features an elevated cabin experience with leather-trimmed sports seats, a 10.2-inch digital cluster, 9.0-inch infotainment display, Google Built-in, wireless smartphone connectivity, and an 8-speaker Bose audio system. The model retains a practical liftback design with a generous 428-litre luggage capacity.
Honda Australia has confirmed that the Prelude will arrive mid-2026, with pricing expected to fall between $65,000 and $70,000 drive-away, placing it as a premium, niche performance offering in the local market.
